Portable Document Format (PDF)
is a standard for distributing documents. It is a universal file format
that may be used in a variety of formats and preserves all the fonts,
formatting, graphics, and color of any source document, regardless
of the application and platform used to create it. These files can
be transmitted, shared, viewed, searched and printed by any person
with the free Adobe Acrobat® Reader® software. Almost any
document can be converted to the PDF. Format PDF Files are ideal for
the printing industry, document distribution and navigation through
documents in a standard format.
Some considerations for using PDF Files are;
• Anyone, anywhere can open a PDF file. All you need is free
Acrobat Reader software, which is available by download from the internet.
• PDF files always display exactly as created, regardless of
fonts, software, and operating systems.
• PDF files always print correctly on any printing device.
• Tagged PDF preserves a document's visual integrity so it can
be viewed on Palm OS® devices, on the Web, or in print.
• Content in PDF documents can be saved in Rich Text Format
and reused in other applications.
Tagged PDF files contain information on content and structure, which
make them accessible with the help of screen readers.
• Adobe PDF files can be published and distributed anywhere:
in print, attached to e-mail, on corporate servers, posted on Web
sites, or on CD-ROM.
• Compact Adobe PDF files are smaller than their source files,
can be downloaded a page at a time for fast display on the Web, and
don't slow down your network.
• Using Acrobat 5.0 software, you can easily add bookmarks,
set security options, and generate miniature Adobe PDF previews.
Acrobat 5.0 also lets you comment on and approve Adobe PDF documents
with digital signatures, all within a Web browser.
